Background, interest in development, affiliation with NGOs etc?

As a student of Environmental Science I was involved in various activities and awareness campaigns since Bachelor level of study. I have learnt my attraction towards environment and development issues that I always wanted to prove me on. On the go, I caught the way NGOs are providing space for young activists to step on. So, I got myself involved in Environmental Camps for Conservation Awareness (ECCA- Nepal) as a counselor of conservation. Here I actively participated in many programs that ECCA was working on that really taught me my part as an NGO activist.

How did you first get in touch with World Comics and grassroots comics?

As C-WISH, Nepal organized grassroots comics training for NGO activists in Kathmandu in February 2008 during the short visit of Sharad Sharma and Nida Shams in Kathmandu, I was recommended by ECCA – Nepal for the training. This was my first direct encounter to World Comics. Here I decided to be a grassroots comics activist as I was totally impressed by the concept and its energy.

Later I was lucky to be participating in Training of Trainers in Delhi organized by World Comics India and Pravah where I found myself facing Leif and Sharad.

What are your experiences of grassroots comics? Do you plan to use grassroots comics in your future activities?

I really experienced the diverse flavor of grassroot comics that I believe is the most powerful communication tool at the grassroots level. With ECCA I conducted training camps on wall poster comics to school children on child rights issues. Later I conducted another comics workshop with CHILD Nepal and Child Development Society (CDS) that increased my understanding of response from participants to this energizing tool.

As an Environmental Expert I am planning to use grassroots comics in conservation issues. I can see a broader horizon for my expertise in environmental services with this tool on. I am sure to be an active propagator of grassroots comics concept in my future.
